Joe Caruso is not just a member of the Newport Community with over 1,000 Facebook Fans, he is also a husband to Linda, devoted father to three active boys under the age of 4 (Mason, Tyler and Noah), son, brother, Food and Beverage Manager, neighbor, surfer, runner and friend.

On December 19, 2009, Joe and his family were dealt a devastating blow when they learned that his body is battling Stage IV Adenocarcinoma, which has spread through both lungs, his spine, hip and liver.  Joe began immediate radiation therapy and is now undergoing chemotherapy treatments to assist in reducing the size of these tumors.

As Joe’s Fans, we have rallied around him and his family and helped to create financial and emotional support as we all “RIDE THE WAVE with JOE CARUSO and Family” throughout this long journey.

This website was created for you to keep updated on Joe’s condition, find out ways to help the family and provide a quick and simple way to make a donation to help this family through this difficult time.

First of all, we are so thankful to everyone for their support. We feel that with all of the tremendous outpouring of love and support we will truly fight this battle with an entire community. For instance, the staff at Newport Grand where I am still employed gave me four Thank You cards filled with get well wishes and a donation to our family. The staff in the Food and Beverage Department at Newport Grand have really pulled together to assist each other in my absence. Another family friend who I went to high school with and lives in Newport gave my wife a donation. Another surfer friend of mine gave Linda a donation and a great big hug. Wonderful people take time out from their families to bring us home cooked meals and baked goods. Diapers suddenly appear on our door. The City of Newport gave our children a pass to the Beach Bounce at 1st beach. It’s incredible what is happening and it seems so surreal at times because Linda and I are usually on the giving end of fundraisers for various causes. Being on the receiving end is something we are not used to.

I hope that my story will inspire others to live positively, without regrets and with a kind heart. I want to be the one whose story will inspire people in my same situation to fight for their lives. Not only do I have an entire community behind me but I feel so fortunate to have married such a supportive, kind and amazing woman with whom we created three wonderful children and fortunately they have their mothers looks. I am so thankful for everyday I am able to walk outside and smell the fresh air. I look forward to teaching my kids how to surf, fish and ride bicycles. I have so much to live for, so many things to accomplish and so many footprints in the sand to leave. There’s a PBS show called Peep and the Big Wide World that me and my sons sing and dance to. The final verse goes like this “It’s a big wide world and it’s waiting for you and me”.

Thanks again for all of your support,
Joe Caruso and Family.
