"Our lives have been a whirlwind in the past months and I wanted to take some time to tell you all that has been happening with my treatment. I am finished with my full 6 hour chemotherapy treatments of four chemo drugs. I begin maintenance chemo treatments June 21st. The maintenance chemo treatment consists of one drug and it takes about 45 minutes to administer which makes our day at Dana Farber much more manageable. My doctor says that I am responding very well to the chemo treatments and that I have two things that are helping me out which are my age and my health.

I struggle every day with the chronic pain in my lower back. The pain is caused by the fracture in my spine which also causes my right leg to become weak and numb. I am being treated by this great chiropractor, Dr Pruitt, who has helped to alleviate most of the numbness in my feet and has helped to make my right leg feel stronger. Also on June 21st I am going to Brigham and Women's Hospital to meet with a spine specialist to determine if I am a candidate for a procedure where they inject surgical cement into the fracture in my spine. If I am eligible for the procedure the doctors say that I would be pain free in a week. The possibility of surfing again keeps my spirits high. I have been working out swimming laps in the pool at the YMCA to keep in surf shape and to train for the Save the Bay 1.7 mile open water swim on July 17th. Training has been tough because I don't have much lung capacity. I have committed to myself to get in the pool every other day for a workout. I will soon start to train in the ocean which is much harder that a pool workout but unfortunately there isn't any sides of the pool to hang on to. Although I become exhausted, the workouts have been great for my body and mind.

My spirits are great and I attribute that to the support that I get from my family and the support from the community. All the prayers and well wishes are working so please keep it up. We are very thankful for all of the support that this great community has given to us."
